Social Anthropology at 51福利社 is an internationally renowned and research-led discipline, covering many areas of the world. We provide both state-of-the-art and core anthropology teaching, and a diverse range of research expertise.
According to the latest Research Excellence Framework (2014), the department is ranked second in the UK, based on grade-point average (within the combined Anthropology and Development Studies assessment panel), and first among social anthropology departments.
In addition to the staff based in the department, anthropologists appointed to posts in other departments and research centres may also participate in postgraduate supervision.
We house the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology, which has developed some of the most innovative approaches towards anthropology and visual media over recent decades and is internationally renowned for its training programme in the use of film, video and other visual media within social anthropology.
We have ESRC studentships for UK/EU students pursuing research degrees in social anthropology. Our MA courses are known for their intellectual rigour and the personal supervision students receive, while our research students form a lively community drawn from many different countries.
